Giannis Antetokounmpo is expected to make a decision about his future with the Bucks shortly. The franchise is preparing for every scenario, including his departure. The father of a draft prospect confirms this.
It’s June, which means we’ll know during this month whether Giannis Antetokounmpo will extend his adventure with the Bucks. Indeed, depending on his decision, the 2025 NBA draft could see a potential shake-up, so his choice will have to be made before then. The event will take place on June 25.
If Giannis asks to leave, the Bucks will launch negotiations with other organizations and could pick up a big draft pick. That’s not really what Milwaukee wants today, as the front office wants to keep the Greek Freak, but it’s important to cover all scenarios. And that means a possible departure.
Bucks worried about Giannis?
After all, Giannis has made it clear that he wants to win another championship as a priority, and it’s hard to see how the Bucks are going to achieve such a goal in the coming years, especially with Damian Lillard injured. So to hedge its bets, Milwaukee has started preparing for the draft.
Despite the fact that the Bucks have no first-rounders at present, the front office is taking a close look at several players, as if expecting a possible surprise in the coming weeks. One father, for example, confirms that his son is being sounded out by the Bucks ahead of this draft, confirming a possible interest.
“Milwaukee doesn’t have a pick in the first round, not even in the top 10. But they’re asking about my son and wanting to know a little bit more information. They’ve called, and I don’t understand why they have interest unless they plan on making a move.”
It’s not that the Bucks necessarily want to enter the top 10 of the next draft, but they will undoubtedly have this possibility if Giannis asks to leave. The Spurs, for example, have the second pick, and we know they haven’t ruled out the possibility of launching an offense. But given the choice, we imagine that Milwaukee would like to keep their star above all else.
