Shaquille O’Neal, still a keen observer of league news as an analyst, knows that Giannis Antetokounmpo could change his tune this summer. However, he took the opposite view of many observers on this subject and advised the Greek Freak.

Yes, the Bucks’ leader is likely to liven up the off-season by jumping ship. For the time being, he is considering the possibility and is not unmoved by the interest expressed in him by certain franchises. His future is therefore currently one of the main topics of discussion in the game, and was recently mentioned by Shaq.

Shaquille O’Neal warns Giannis Antetokounmpo

Asked about the Giannis case during a recent appearance on the Good Word with Goodwill podcast, O’Neal advised the Greek Freak… to continue his journey in Milwaukee. Because, in his opinion, joining a bigger market would be of little interest in the current era:

Shaquille O’Neal: If I could talk to him, I’d probably tell him that going to a big market doesn’t matter anymore.

These days, the only market that counts is social networks, and Giannis has made a name for himself on social networks. If he goes to LA, 50% of his contract income will be taxed, so he’ll have more pressure and therefore more stress. Knowing that he’s in control in this matter, he should go to his executives and say, “I want to see all the free agents and talk to them.” He should get players to come to him.

A statement which may seem rather paradoxical, given that Diesel himself left the Magic to join the Lakers in 1996. However, according to him, times have changed and his opinion is justified:

Shaquille O’Neal: You know, when I was on the upswing, Orlando was a small market – too small a market. I had to join a bigger one, even if it hurt. But now, all markets are the same. Nobody cares which city you play in. It’s not the ’90s anymore.

It remains to be seen whether Antetokounmpo will heed this advice and ultimately decide to remain loyal to his long-standing franchise.
