The Suns will be making an important decision in the next few days, all without taking Kevin Durant’s opinion into account. A new step that seems to confirm his departure in the coming off-season.
With no playoffs and no play-in this campaign, the Suns have suffered a resounding fiasco in NBA history. They were considered title favorites at the very start of the season, before completely collapsing despite the talent of Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and even Bradley Beal. So today, it’s time to clean house.
Internally, this has already been going on for some time, as Phoenix has a new GM, as well as a new coach who will be unveiled in a few days/weeks depending on the progress of the search. We had an important update on this very subject on Monday, with a decision likely to be made soon if we are to believe Shams Charania.
Suns ready to make a decision in the West
With Mike Budenholzer fired, the Suns are almost ready to make a decision on the coaching position. According to Shams, the list of suitors has been whittled down to two people, or rather two novices. This confirms that Phoenix wants to move in a new direction, and while the title remains the priority, they will no longer be the favorites as it stands.
Shams Charania : “The Phoenix Suns have narrowed their head coaching search to two finalists from the Cleveland Cavaliers, associate coach Johnnie Bryant and assistant Jordan Ott, sources tell ESPN. Both will meet with Suns owner Mat Ishbia in Michigan ahead of a hiring as soon as later this week.”
So we’ll know more very soon about the future of the Suns, who will be putting their faith in a new coach to try and win something in future years. What we can learn from this research is that Kevin Durant is totally snubbed according to Shams. And when Devin Booker is fully involved according to the insider, it sets the trend and confirms that the Slim Reaper should be leaving soon.
It remains to be seen whether he will bounce back with the Spurs, Wolves or another surprise organization in September.
