The Lakers have a small problem in their racket, requiring new players for next season. And while one journalist mentioned Myles Turner as a possibility, the pivot isn’t expected to move a muscle after his campaign with the Pacers.
After the rout against the Wolves and serious regular-season shortcomings in certain games, it’s clear that the Lakers need a pivot. Rob Pelinka had already made his move with Mark Williams, suggested by Luka Doncic, but the trade was eventually cancelled, leaving the Angelinos with Dalton Knecht and in a complex situation.
So this summer, fans will be hoping for a major trade to pick up a pivot and help Doncic for years to come. Note that the Angelinos will probably need two interiors, as Jaxson Hayes is set to leave with his free agent status. And knowing that he was benched in the playoffs, it’s unlikely that he’ll be keen to return to the City of Angels.
A lead fades for the Lakers
Pelinka will therefore have to be attentive and aggressive on the market if he wants to provide a good rotation for JJ Redick, or the Lakers may have major gaps for 2026. Naz Reid, Daniel Gafford and Nic Claxton are names to watch, but Myles Turner has also been mentioned. Number 33 is currently a big hit with the Pacers.
The good news is that Turner will be a free agent this summer, which means he should be courted, and according to a few media outlets, the Angelinos would like to inquire about him. He’d be a great reinforcement when you see all he’s achieving, but that’s also why the Pacers don’t want to let him go. No matter how much it costs.
HPBasketball : “I was really curious what the Pacers were going to do given that they couldn’t clear salary for Myles Turner’s extension at the deadline, but it sounds like, regardless, he’s not going anywhere. Word is that the two sides are already close on an extension that will keep him with Indiana. What that means for the rest of the Pacers supporting cast is another question.”
Turner is a priority for the Pacers, so much so that this extension should happen quickly. But for that to happen, the franchise will have to make room in its roster. A logical choice, although it could handicap this roster in order to get back to the big finals. To be continued.
