Although he turned 40 a few months ago, LeBron James is still chasing one last NBA championship. But according to a former player in the league, the Chosen One would be wise to let that idea go…

Averaging over 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 8 assists in a season—those are some pretty cool stats for any NBA player. But the craziest thing is, they’re the work of a forty-year-old… Once again, LeBron James has been impressively consistent in 2024-25 despite his advanced age, to the point of displaying a new level of play never before seen by a basketball player with such a long career.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to push the Lakers all the way. Instead, they were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Timberwolves. An early elimination that mimicked last season’s… However, don’t think the King has lost his championship ambitions—quite the opposite.

Olden Polynice dashes LeBron’s title hopes

Alongside Luka Doncic and a roster that will be rebuilt around the Slovenian rather than him, LBJ intends to capture a fifth and final ring before retiring. These are very good plans, but ones that are doomed to failure, according to Olden Polynice. The former player didn’t mince his words with Byron Scott:

The longevity aspect, I think it’s getting a little bit too much now. Because I’m like, dude, what else you want to do? It’s time for you to start thinking about retiring. He ain’t getting no fifth ring unless he buys one. It ain’t happening.

On the other hand, the former big man sees another team becoming a regular client to the NBA Finals, one that will actually be playing in them in a few days:

OKC ain’t going nowhere. They’re just going to get better. They’ve got guys who aren’t even on the roster yet. The boy Nikola Topić is their property, for lack of a better word, and he hasn’t even played a game, hasn’t even touched the floor. And they’ve got 172.000 draft picks. They’re going to be a problem for a while. Man, they’re going to be a problem for a long time. They’ve got draft picks for the next 20 years. Dude, that’s insane to me

With an incredibly talented roster, the Thunder are reaping the rewards of their long-term rebuild. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has become the MVP and has excellent lieutenants in Luguentz Dort, Jalen Williams, and Chet Holmgren. They’ll soon have to find a way to retain them all, but in the meantime, all the elements are in place to become the new Western Conference powerhouse.
