There’s every reason to believe that Kevin Durant will soon be traded. Information confirmed by Shams Charania himself, who gave an update on the star’s situation. The month of June will be decisive for his future.
The upheaval has already begun at the Suns, who found a new coach this week, with the help of Devin Booker in particular. Proof that he’s not going anywhere anytime soon, something that can’t be said about Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal. Both are clearly on their way out.
But trading Durant will undoubtedly be the easiest, as the soon-to-be 37-year-old has many admirers across the NBA. The problem is that, despite his obvious talent for shredding opposing defenses, retirement is approaching for the not-so-young KD. So teams don’t want to give up a lot of assets in a trade.
The end is nigh for Kevin Durant
Whether we’re talking about the Spurs, Wolves or Rockets, all of whom have been mentioned as possible frontrunners, it’s unlikely that Phoenix will get a flurry of assets in return. However, we can expect some major advances in June, as the Suns want to reach an agreement with their draft deadline. They’d like a first-round pick for the upcoming draft.
All three teams have a spot in the first round, which means anything is possible. This is where Durant’s preference will come into play, as he can also ask the Suns to join a particular destination if the mood strikes him, even if he has no say in the matter. Whatever happens, according to Shams Charania, negotiations will progress.
Shams Charania : “Kevin Durant trade talks will begin to intensify over the next 2-3 weeks. The Suns will work with Durant and his partner Rich Kleiman on the trade. 4 to 6 teams are interested before the draft. There will be serious conversations to trade him.”
His departure is therefore confirmed for June, especially as the Suns are not interested in keeping him any longer. It remains to be seen who will win the bid and for what consideration. Because no matter how talented he is, no one wants to overpay Phoenix in this deal.
