With all the changes at the Spurs in recent months, Chris Paul seems to be heading for the exit in Texas. He should have no trouble finding a new franchise, and one stands out very quickly.

Having been with the Spurs for one year, Chris Paul has not signed any longer with the Texan franchise, as he is already on the market for the summer of 2025. He could have stayed a little longer in San Antonio, but the organization’s recent choices suggest that his departure is a foregone conclusion. He would nevertheless be very useful in continuing to guide the youngsters.

Nevertheless, as he reiterated when he signed with the Texans, he wants to continue playing and have a real role in a team. There’s no question of him not playing or settling for 10 minutes off the bench, so CP3 should obviously look for another destination this off-season.

Which franchise for Chris Paul?

The Mavericks were mentioned for a while, as they are looking for a quality point guard to fill the absence of Kyrie Irving, back in 2026 according to Shams Charania. The opportunity is real, but nothing says that CP3 is interested at this stage. What is certain is that with De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle and perhaps Dylan Harper, it will be impossible to make a mark with the Spurs.

So Paul will be looking for a new destination, and if the Mavs are there, the Lakers could try their luck. The lead is not a big area for them, so CP3 could have a real role there and reunite with his good friend LeBron James. It’s not impossible that the two men might decide to team up, especially if this is their last opportunity before a possible retirement.

@LakersBetter : “RUMOR: Chris Paul and his family live in L.A. and it sounds like he wants to potentially end his career in L.A: “The past six seasons I have lived without them. I’ve been away from them the last six years. That’s the conversation.””

So doesn’t Paul want to come back to Los Angeles to be with his family? We imagine so, especially after so many years of sacrifice. He could wait a little longer before retiring, but playing in LA would already allow him to be near his loved ones more often. We imagine the Lakers would be interested.
