In addition to recruiting a center, which seems mandatory on paper, the Warriors have a decision to make concerning a young player on the squad who will soon be available. But in the front office, the choice already seems to have been made.

With the totally successful trade of Jimmy Butler, the Warriors are very confident for the coming year. They’re convinced they’ve got what it takes to win the championship with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, now they just need to recruit some solid players alongside them. We’re thinking, for example, of the presence of a true center for future years.

Because with small ball for some time, the Dubs have almost abandoned this position, regularly trusting Green. But as we’ve seen over the last few months, this is sorely lacking, and we can expect a signing as early as this summer. Nevertheless, this may not be the most important story of the off-season.

Warriors ready to make a decision behind the scenes

Jonathan Kuminga comes to mind. A restricted free agent this summer, he could sign elsewhere and leave the Warriors, who still have the advantage. They could retain the player by matching any offer, but that’s up to the organization. And losing such a talent freely, albeit heavily criticized by Steve Kerr, is not a viable option.

The most likely scenario for many insiders? Golden State will match any offer in the market and retain Kuminga. What’s next? Well, that’s a good question. Maybe the Warriors will trust her with minutes, or maybe the front office will find her another trade when she can.

@GSWBallReport : “BREAKING: The Warriors are very likely to hang onto Jonathan Kuminga and are not expected to move on from the 22-year-old forward, per @MontePooleNBCS”

This is hardly a surprise. It’s better to pay up front and retain Kuminga, rather than lose him freely without any compensation. The latter scenario would be a serious mistake, and it looks like the Warriors’ management have understood this. It remains to be seen whether Kuminga will be happy to return, especially after Kerr’s heavy criticism. Let’s not forget that the coach felt that winning was not possible with him.
