The end of the Kevin Durant story is approaching for the Suns, who are currently looking for a way out for their winger. And given the choice, the next franchise for the star seems an obvious one. But nothing has been decided yet.

We’ll know during the month of June what the future holds for Kevin Durant. His departure is a foregone conclusion for most insiders, who confirm that the Suns have begun negotiations and that the front office wants to send him elsewhere. It’s a good way of starting a rebuild of sorts, but also, and above all, of offloading his imposing salary.

With the NBA’s new rules, notably the famous “Apron”, it’s much harder for teams to accumulate large contracts over time, at least while escaping a few restrictions. So the Suns want to clean house and Durant seems the perfect candidate, as does Bradley Beal and his 60 million annual fee.

Kevin Durant’s next franchise found?

Except that, unlike Beal, Durant is attracting a lot of interest across the league. The Rockets, Wolves, Spurs and now even the Knicks are all rumored to be interested in snapping up the services of number 35 in a few weeks’ time. The deadline is likely to be June 25, the date of the NBA draft. The Suns are hoping for a first-round pick at this event.

Will they find what they’re looking for? It’s not a given, but the Rockets continue to generate a certain buzz on the market. The Texan franchise clearly needs a big offensive option to take it to the next level in the West, and they have two first-rounders belonging to the Suns. And the Suns would love to have them back.

@GSWBallReport : “The Houston Rockets are emerging as favorites to land Kevin Durant, as their odds have moved up significantly since yesterday from +280 to +225, per @DKSportsbook. Houston Rockets +225 Phoenix Suns +350 Minnesota Timberwolves +400 San Antonio Spurs +1000 New York Knicks +1000 New Orleans Pelicans +1400 Miami Heat +1500.”

With the franchise’s needs and this picks situation, the Rockets are like a no-brainer to pick up Durant in the coming weeks. And according to a few insiders, the interest is there, even if the quid pro quo could pose a problem. Whatever happens, his departure is a foregone conclusion.
