It’s shaping up to be a hot summer, and the many rumors circulating in NBA microcosm are proof of that. In fact, a new big name has just been announced following a poor playoff campaign. An All-Star point guard could be on his way out!
Shams Charania, the best-informed journalist in the NBA microcosm, said a few days ago that the summer of 2025 would certainly be one of the craziest in history. With superstars such as Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant on their way out, there should be some major shifts in the balance of power.
And the playoffs will also be important in the off-season. Several teams have shown their limitations and will have to work hard to progress and do better next year; this is the case for the Celtics, for example, who will have to deal with the problem of old age. Jrue Holiday and Al Horford are expected to leave, and perhaps even 2024 Finals MVP Jaylen Brown.
Darius Garland on the move in Cleveland?
Similarly, after recording the best record of the regular season, the Cavaliers were crushed by the Pacers in the conference semi-finals. From then on, experts wondered whether a duo as small as Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland could shine on the road to the title. A question that is also being asked in the franchise’s offices, if we are to believe Brian Windhorst. Speaking on local radio, he said:
What’s interesting about the Cavaliers is that a year ago, some people thought Darius Garland would want to be traded. Donovan Mitchell had just extended, and the buzz was that Garland wanted out. In fact, the franchise’s GM had to speak out publicly to put an end to these rumors. A year later, I’m hearing that Garland could be available if the circumstances are right.
I don’t think Darius Garland wants to go anywhere. Garland is very happy with the way the Cavaliers have progressed. He likes his role in Kenny Atkinson’s system. But I think the Cavaliers are listening and open-minded, without actively seeking to evacuate him. They’re not convinced they need to shake up their squad.
The Cavaliers are coming off a major disillusionment in the playoffs, which inevitably leads to a rethink on the part of management. That’s why they want to listen to possible offers for Darius Garland, without being convinced that they need to trade the All-Star point guard. If the conditions are right, however, there could be movement in Ohio.
