A Spurs player for a few months now, De’Aaron Fox only wanted San Antonio when he left the Kings. So when asked about his future in the league after his trade, the point guard is pretty clear about the next step.

Barring a turn of events, Chris Paul is expected to leave the Spurs and not re-sign a contract over the summer. His presence was needed in 2024 to help Stephon Castle, but since then, things have changed a lot in Texas. We’re thinking of the arrival of De’Aaron Fox, as well as the probable drafting of Dylan Harper in a few weeks’ time.

The Spurs now have what it takes at point guard, and many are banking on Fox’s talent to take them to the next level in the Western Conference. It has to be said that the point guard is highly motivated, as he was desperate to land in Texas when discussing his trade with the Kings. No list, just one team for Fox.

Does Aaron Fox want to stay with the Spurs?

And Fox finally got what he wanted. San Antonio quickly negotiated with Sacramento and with the need for a point guard and the assets to match, the deal easily saw the light of day. Interesting fact? The Spurs didn’t shell out a lot of assets in this trade, a very positive point when it comes to recruiting via trades again in the future.

In the meantime, Fox and the Spurs have a first decision to make regarding their partnership this summer. The player can prolong his contract with an extension, but the Texans will have to offer it to him. Questioned on the subject, Fox confirms that he is in favor of signing it.

De’Aaron Fox: “I really hope so”, when asked about the possibility of signing an extension.

Fox can sign for 228 million over 4 years, with a 51 million salary starting with the 2026 campaign. He can’t get more because of his recent trade, but it’s already a nice sum and the best way to make life easier for the Spurs regarding his future.

But knowing that Fox underwent surgery on his injured finger a few months ago, some wonder if this is good news. In any case, the former Kings point guard has given us some news, and he has every intention of returning to top form:

Fox: “I’m doing well and the operation went well. I’ve been allowed to play a bit of 5vs5 and I’ve done some contact stuff. I’ll be ready for next year.”
