It’s no secret that the Lakers are looking to recruit a pivot this summer. And while fans await a major arrival, Rob Pelinka could also use an alternative to get what he wants.

Outplayed by Rudy Gobert, to name but one, this season, the Lakers clearly need a new post 5 for the coming seasons. Mark Williams was supposed to be that player, but his physical test was unsatisfactory, forcing the Angelinos to cancel the trade at the last minute at the deadline. A deal that still divides the web today.

Why? Because Williams returned to the Hornets and finished the season normally, injury-free and with a couple of big performances. One wonders what the Lakers found in the famous test, but the medical staff were obviously very worried. The Purple and Gold now need to find a new solution.

Who will the Lakers recruit for the pivot position?

For weeks, fans have been dreaming of a great player to help Luka Doncic in the racket. Several leads have been mooted, including Naz Reid, Daniel Gafford, Brook Lopez and Nic Claxton. But Rob Pelinka may choose another option, such as the draft. After all, the Lakers have been busy in recent weeks.

Like other franchises, the Angelinos are stepping up private training sessions with prospects from the next crop. Isaac Nogues, Lamont Butler and CJ Huntley have all tested with them, and the list goes on. We also learned that Clifford Omoruyi was in Los Angeles, and he’s a pivot.

LakersDaily : “Omoruyi is the center in question who once led the Big Ten in blocks, as he averaged 1.7 blocks per game over the course of his collegiate career and swatted away a whopping 2.9 shots per contest while playing for Rutgers University in the 2023-24 collegiate season. That gave him 93 blocks in total that season.”

Suffice to say, the prospect is interesting and has the necessary qualities to have a role with the Lakers, at least if he manages to establish himself in the NBA. But for a team with its sights set on the title in the immediate future, they may have to set their sights a little higher to win the title. The fans expect a lot more at this stage.
