Since joining the WNBA, Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese have brought a huge amount of media attention to the women’s league, partly because they are portrayed as rivals. NFL legend Tom Brady has also given his strong opinion on the matter.
It’s still a long way from performing as well as the NBA or even being truly profitable, but the WNBA has been doing better than ever in recent months. This is no coincidence, as this resurgence in form coincides with the 2024 draft, which saw the arrival of some highly anticipated players at the professional level.
Among them, Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese are among them. The former had the impact of a hurricane within the Indiana Fever, immediately bringing the franchise back to the playoffs while being elected Rookie of the Year. As for the latter, while she is criticized for the poor offensive game and her clumsiness, she continues to pile up all-time records in rebounds under the colors of the Chicago Sky.
Tom Brady, big fan of Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese
The icing on the cake is that the two young women have been competing against each other since their NCAA careers, even facing off in the Final Four. Now, they are regularly pitted against one another in the WNBA, allowing the league to benefit from unprecedented media coverage. American football legend Tom Brady evan paid tribute to them in an interview with Bleacher Report:
Michael Jordan. He was my childhood idol. He was unbelievable. Obviously, I loved Kobe Bryant. I still love Kobe Bryant. Tiger, his competitiveness. What Rory McIlroy’s done, I love that. Shohei Ohtani, what he’s done has been unbelievable. Barry Bonds he went to my high school. I was the biggest fan of him growing up. Michael Phelps, I love him. Michael Johnson.
A’ja Wilson from my Las Vegas Aces, I love her. She’s amazing. Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, this little thing they got going, I love that. It’s been really exciting.
Obviously a big fan of women’s basketball to the point of following the Las Vegas performances, TB12 also discovered an interest in the beef between the two sophomores.
While one might wonder about the consequences of this rivalry, given that the debates among fans of the players in question sometimes turn out to be downright toxic, it’s clear that the WNBA is better off because of it. Even if, for the moment, it’s a one-sided debate, since Clark has clearly gained the upper hand over her opponent, being already among the MVP candidates despite her recent injury.
