After a disappointing season without playoffs, the Hawks are still hoping to bounce back for the next Eastern campaign. The front office is expected to be aggressive, notably with a big target to strengthen the racket. But this is already shaping up to be a complex issue.
For the Hawks, there’s really no need to procrastinate at the moment. They have little choice but to focus on winning, since rebuilding is not possible due to several past choices. The one that interests us? The trade with the Spurs for Dejounte Murray, with Atlanta sending several first-rounders to the Texans.
While the 2025 pick already belonged to the Spurs, the 2026 and 2027 picks will follow suit, putting Atlanta in a difficult situation. The franchise has no other choice: it’s all about winning and hoping to make a big run in the playoffs. It’s possible with Trae Young, even if the Eastern Conference is tough today.
Ambitious Hawks on the market?
This season, Quin Snyder’s men have failed to clinch a playoff spot, which doesn’t bode well for the future. Let’s hope Zaccharie Risacher continues his fine progress after a second-place finish for rookie of the year, while the front office should be aggressive in the market. Their goal? Recruit an inside player.
There are already quite a few leads depending on the franchise, but we know that the Lakers and Warriors have the same ambition. Nevertheless, and according to information from journalist Grant Afseth, the Hawks are going to make a big move for Myles Turner from the Pacers. On the face of it, it’s a very complicated deal, but it says a lot about their ambition.
@GrantAfseth : “The Indiana Pacers and Myles Turner share mutual interest in a new contract this summer, sources tell @TheRGMedia. However, the Detroit Pistons and Atlanta Hawks are among the teams interested in pursuing him.”
Turner is having a great season with the Pacers, protecting his circle in superb fashion to name but one. He’ll be courted this summer with his free agent status, but a contract extension is most likely with Indiana, especially after a great Finals and, potentially, title. The Hawks will take their chances either way.
