Expected to go first in the upcoming draft, Cooper Flagg is considered a future NBA star. The Mavericks have clearly understood this, as evidenced by the organization’s recent decision.

A lot of pressure on the Mavericks in the coming weeks with this first pick of the draft. Some fans are wondering if Nico Harrison is planning to do anything more with this asset, for example by using it in a major trade to get a star back. And right now, that’s a scenario that shouldn’t be ruled out.

With the GM best known for his incompetence, whether we’re talking about Luka Doncic or even the Stephen Curry soap opera with Nike, anything is possible in the coming weeks. But for the time being, the early returns are rather positive, as Dallas is expected to select Cooper Flagg in the draft.

Mavericks already ready for the draft?

This is no surprise, since Flagg is considered the best player of the next crop. Dylan Harper is also considered a star, and is expected to land in San Antonio, while the other young prospects are a step down for observers. So it’s easy for Dallas to make its choice.

No word yet on whether the Mavs are planning a surprise trade, but if not, Flagg is set to arrive in Texas on June 25. ESPN confirms the trend, with the front office planning to meet with the player during the month and… only him. In other words, their choice is already made.

@BallReportX : “REPORT: The Mavericks have no plans to work out other prospects for the No. 1 pick and fully intend to select Cooper Flagg in the 2025 NBA Draft, per ESPN.”

At this point, the Mavs have only tested Flagg and it looks like things are going to stay that way. The franchise trusts the player and sees no point in looking elsewhere. It’s a bit of a surprise since Harper’s talent is real, but Dallas has already made its choice. It remains to be seen whether a trade remains possible, especially with Harrison around.
