After a fine season with the Sixers despite a collective rout, Guerschon Yabusele can look forward to the free agency period with confidence. He will be courted by Philly and other franchises, but he hasn’t yet made his choice. Several factors will be taken into account.
If some had any doubts, Guerschon Yabusele quickly put on a show for the Sixers. Good on defense and so important in the effort, while punishing from three-point range, the Frenchman did his team a lot of good. Too bad injuries ruined this campaign, that and a lack of team cohesion. The results were terrible in the end.
No playoffs for Philadelphia, but a third pick in the next draft. So, not all is lost after this campaign, even if Yabusele will now have to make a choice. He’ll soon be a free agent, but his decision hasn’t been made yet, despite the Sixers’ interest in keeping him. He spoke to HoopsHype on the subject.
What does the future hold for Guerschon Yabusele?
Guerschon Yabusele : “We will see those options also with the upcoming summer when we’re going to know a little bit what’s going on. I know the Sixers are going to look change some pieces in the roster, so you have to wait also to see what’s gonna happen but the draft’s gonna set everything pretty much for every team to know where they’re going with the trades and stuff like that. I guess we’ll see soon but I’m pretty excited. It’s going to be my first time really enjoying free agency, especially in the NBA. I’m pretty excited just to hear the offers, to see what’s going on, to see the movement.”
Yabusele has never hidden his desire to continue with the Sixers, but he also wants a solid role for the future. So if Philly can’t promise him that, perhaps the Frenchman will look elsewhere, to other ring contenders… or outsiders. The most important thing for him is to find himself in a role where he’s comfortable.
Yabusele : “Now that I’ve been on the team where I played and a lot of minutes too, I want to be in a situation where I can play too. I’m not asking to play 40 minutes a game. That would be crazy. But just to be in the right situation for me, for the team, having a goal that we can achieve and have a bunch of guys looking to the right direction. And if it’s with the 76ers, I’ll be more than happy. This has been a great, great season and time for me. the fans have been showing me nothing but love, even the organization.”
Happy at the Sixers, especially with his role, Yabusele is not confirming his return at the moment. He would be very happy to return to Pennsylvania, but everything will depend on the contract and his minutes on the roster. Suffice to say, Daryl Morey knows what he has to do if he wants to keep the Frenchman.
