Already active on the bangs of the last trade deadline, the Warriors failed to (re)get their hands on the Larry O’Brien trophy despite their acquisitions. They could therefore return to the fray this summer and, in particular, recruit a long-standing target.

Given their pitiful position in the Western Conference standings, they had no choice but to make changes to their squad. The Warriors got busy before the trade deadline, and in particular completed the arrival of Jimmy Butler. The move paid off, as it enabled them to make the playoffs, but was not enough, as their run came to a halt in the second round against the Timberwolves.

Warriors in a good position to close an old deal?

With this disappointment behind them, Golden State’s directors must continue to overhaul their roster this summer. As was the case last February, they’ll be keeping a close eye on the market and any potential bargains. In this context, their eyes could turn to… the Jazz, where candidates for departure are as numerous as they are attractive, according to Sarah Todd of the Deseret News :

Sarah Todd: Several league sources have indicated that they believe the Jazz will be active on the market in the coming weeks. Many expect the franchise to be willing to listen to offers that would include picks for Draft 2025 and involve the departure of current Jazz players. The most obvious candidates for departure would be John Collins, Collin Sexton and Jordan Clarkson.

All three will see their contracts expire at the end of the 2025-26 season, but league sources say they also expect talks regarding Walker Kessler (who is eyeing an extension) and Lauri Markkanen.

Markkanen could well end up in the Dubs’ nets. In any case, the bookmakers make them the favourites in this dossier:

The Warriors are emerging as the favourites to get Lauri Markkanen back, according to specialist site Bovada :
Golden State Warriors (+205)
Miami Heat (+250)
Orlando Magic (+325)
Dallas Mavericks (+450)
San Antonio Spurs (+650)

It should be noted that the Warriors’ possible interest in the Finnish winger would not come out of nowhere. The Californian franchise had already made him a priority target during the 2024 off-season, and even made a significant offer to secure his arrival. It remains to be seen whether they will indeed relaunch this avenue, and if so, whether they will manage to reach an agreement with Utah this time.
