In many rumors, the Spurs will be making trades as early as this summer, and probably for years to come. And while discussions are ongoing, two players are almost certain to leave, according to one journalist.
The summer of 2025 could well be the first turning point for the Spurs, determined to return to the heights of the Western Conference. They don’t want to move too fast either, but according to Shams Charania, the Texan team would also like to recruit some heavy hitters to improve their wing. The two potential targets? Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant. And that’s all there is to it.
But for the former, the story may already be over. Giannis is expected to stay with the Bucks according to the latest reports, which means that KD may have become a priority for San Antonio ahead of the draft. The franchise has the assets for such a deal, so it remains to be seen whether the Suns and Spurs will reach an agreement.
Departures in sight for Spurs?
The 14th pick in the next draft should certainly be part of the deal, while the Spurs should also send a few players in exchange to match salaries. We’re thinking of Devin Vassell, who has been inconsistent this season and has even annoyed the fans. Jeremy Sochan is another plausible name to feature in the negotiations.
Knowing that Vassell has been stagnating for a few years, we can’t say that his presence is a total surprise. It’s a little more so for Sochan, given the importance of his defense, but his shooting is a problem for the Spurs’ attack. John Gambadoro, a journalist close to the Suns, believes that both players could be involved in the Durant deal.
@esidery : “Jeremy Sochan and Devin Vassell are two players to watch who could be included in a potential Kevin Durant trade with the Spurs, per @Gambo987. The Suns are prioritizing young talent and draft capital in a Durant deal ahead of the 2025 NBA Draft.”
And the Spurs have everything they need to complete the deal, even if they still have to agree on the exact consideration. Will a 14th pick in addition to Vassell and/or Sochan be enough to satisfy Phoenix’s desires? Not sure at first. The two franchises have two weeks to reach an agreement before the draft.
