Regularly mentioned at the Spurs, Kevin Durant could also sign a new contract in the near future. Not surprising given the player’s form, even if it could be his last big deal given his age, according to some experts.
June is well underway and we’re still waiting to find out where Kevin Durant will be playing next season. The possibility of him staying with the Suns is looking increasingly remote, especially as Phoenix would like some assets in the draft, which takes place on June 25. And it just so happens that the Spurs can help with just that.
With the 14th pick available, as opposed to the 2nd, San Antonio has a very interesting asset to send to the Suns, in addition to a player like Devin Vassell or Keldon Johnson. In any case, the Texans are hoping to reach an agreement, having begun negotiations with the Suns according to Shams Charania. But the outcome remains a mystery for the time being.
Pactole in sight for Kevin Durant?
The Rockets, the Heat and even the Wolves are teams to watch, especially as Giannis Antetokounmpo’s departure would be compromised. KD would then become the number 1 target on the market for franchises, so the competition would be insane. The Suns’ goal? Raise the stakes until June 25, in the hope of amassing assets.
We’ll have to be patient, but we can already tell you that a new contract may be waiting for Durant with his new team. Or rather, an extension. Evan Sidery confirms that this is a likely theory, especially since losing KD soon after the trade is out of the question. And he could be in for a pretty penny.
@esidery : “Wherever Kevin Durant is traded, the strong indication is he will sign a two-year, $120 million extension this offseason. Durant’s new team would have him under contract for $174.7 million over three years: 2025-26: $54.7 million 2026-27: $57.3 million 2027-28: $62.7 million”
And then, KD will be very close to 40, which means he’s not likely to sign a big new contract. He could get a nice salary, but only for one year, for example, a bit like LeBron James now. But for now, the player would like to know where he’ll be playing in a few months’ time.
