A few moves are expected for the Lakers, determined to do well next season for Luka Doncic. And while a pivot is expected to arrive in the coming weeks, an intriguing new name has emerged.
There are a lot of gaps in the Lakers roster today, and it’s not just the fault of the Luka Doncic trade. The departure of Anthony Davis has left its mark, yes, but the Angelinos have been in need of recruiting for a long time. Even before his trade, AD was the first to call for the arrival of a new pivot in Los Angeles.
Rob Pelinka? Let’s just say he didn’t share that vision, even though he’s decided to operate differently since Doncic arrived. The Slovenian asked for a new pivot with Mark Williams and he almost got what he wanted. So we’re expecting a new offense this summer, with targets like Nic Claxton and Daniel Gafford coming over from the Mavericks.
New target for the Lakers?
Realistic targets, even if the Angelinos could use other means to find their happiness on the market. A rookie in the draft is entirely possible, while so is a free agent. Fans aren’t too keen on the idea, but a player like Clint Capela will be available and his name appeals to some.
Capela will be a free agent and could apply only for the mid-level exception, worth 5.7 million for the next NBA campaign. The Lakers could therefore use this exception on Capela, while making a trade for Claxton, for example. With the probable departure of Jaxson Hayes, Los Angeles won’t need just one pivot.
@LakersBetter : “The Lakers may be able to sign Clint Capela with their TPMLE: “Clint Capela is considered within reach at $5.7 million and, as such, is expected to sit pretty high on the Lakers’ target board.””
So it doesn’t mean it’s done, but Capela will certainly be an interesting target for the Angelinos this summer. Other teams should also take advantage of the opportunity, and in the end, the decision will rest with the former Hawks player. Whatever happens, the Lakers hope to find a pivot fairly quickly for the next campaign.
