Once again, Luka Doncic ended his season without individual awards and a lot of criticism about his physical condition. But this time, El Matador’s pride may have been stung, as Lakers fans have noted.
Given the exceptional circumstances of his arrival in February, the Lakers weren’t expected to hit the ground running right away. It’s in 2025-26 that we’ll be able to judge their level with Luka Doncic at the helm, the former Maverick embodying the future of the franchise until LeBron James retires.
However, the brutal end to the season against the Timberwolves (a 4-1 loss in the first-round) left a bitter taste in everyone’s mouth. As is often the case, the Slovenian was criticized for his insufficient physical condition. And while he’s been dealing with such attacks for a long time, El Matador seems fed up. He looks slimmer than ever and isn’t sitting idly by in training:

Truth be told, it’s no surprise that Halleluka is putting so much effort into his fitness: despite the criticism of his weight, he’ll be playing for his country in Eurobasket in two months. He doesn’t want to fall behind in his preparation, but fans of the Purple and Gold team still see it as an encouraging sign:
@LALukAshow: Been following him for 8 years. This is the first time he has started training in the summertime early. He usually start late July/early August so yes, this is actually different from the past 7 years of his NBA career.
@Dimeisgoated: This trade could end up being the best thing for him, I said he could be a top 5-10 player of all time, if he takes his fitness and conditioning seriously, I’m so happy he is I hope it keeps upa.
The Lakers can be relieved, No. 77 seems to be on fire ahead of the Euro and next season. Now it’s his management who are expected to deliver:
@lam_dera: Luka is doing his part, the Lakers FO should do there part by assembling a roster that can compete with capable depth. If they don’t put up a very good roster, it doesn’t matter how fit or conditioned is, a better roster will always win. Don’t waste a player of this quality.
