The Giannis Antetokounmpo episode has been the subject of rumors for several weeks, but has largely calmed down in recent weeks. And for good reason, the Greek Freak’s departure seems impossible at the moment.

Supposed to have met with his managers in late May/early June, Giannis Antetokounmpo is still a Bucks player for the time being. He has not asked to leave and has not confirmed that he will stay. According to Shams Charania, he is still in the midst of reflection, with an outcome expected somewhere in June, probably before the draft.

Because in the event of a trade, the Bucks will want to rebuild, and the 2025 draft will be a good starting point for that. A trade announcement should therefore take place before June 25, but for the moment, let’s just say that nobody is expecting such a scenario. And for good reason, the Greek Freak still hasn’t asked to leave, and many believe the situation will remain as it is.

Will Giannis stay?

The subject of numerous rumors in recent weeks, Giannis seems to have had doubts about his future in Wisconsin. Understandable after another playoff failure, but asking for a trade was another important step for the player. Except that, at present, teams prefer to turn to other candidates on the market.

According to some journalists, the priority quickly became Kevin Durant, who could sign for the Spurs in the coming weeks. Giannis? Few franchises now expect him to leave, or the announcement would probably have already taken place. Brian Windhorst has set the record straight on ESPN and confirms there’s nothing there.

Brian Windhorst : “Right now, there is no Giannis Antetokounmpo trade market, there is no Giannis Antetokounmpo trade discussions. He has not asked for it. The Bucks are not looking to trade him.”

No surprises there. This should please the fans, especially as the Bucks are currently operating on the assumption that Giannis will be there next season. No trade in sight for the superstar, even if a rebound remains entirely possible during the month of June. But for the time being, the franchises prefer to give priority to other leads, such as KD.
