In search of a pivot on the open market, the Lakers could get rid of several assets to achieve their goal. One player seems to be on the way out, especially after an insider’s unflattering speech about him.
A few changes are expected at the Lakers in the coming weeks. Rob Pelinka has made it clear that he’s scouring the market for a pivot, which won’t surprise anyone after these playoffs. JJ Redick needs a better post 5 than Jaxson Hayes, especially for an organization with championship aspirations.
And when you look at the competition, it’s safe to say that the Angelinos still have some work to do. So yes, the arrival of Luka Doncic is a game-changer and they have the advantage of having their superstar, which is undoubtedly the hardest thing to find, but the cast alongside him must also be up to scratch. And right now, that’s clearly not the case.
Trades expected at the Lakers?
A pivot, a better winger, a better point guard: there are plenty of gaps in Los Angeles, with a defense that could also use a boost. The problem is that Pelinka doesn’t have a lot of assets at his disposal, so he’ll also have to recruit through the draft and possibly free agents. The GM will have to be creative, yes.
He still has a first-round pick and Gabe Vincent, as do Jarred Vanderbilt and Rui Hachimura. But one of the most coveted assets is Dalton Knecht, already considered a solid shooter when he’s at his best. But insider Jovan Buha is less impressed when it comes to qualifying the fullback.
Jovan Buha : “Basically, it comes down to the Lakers only have so many assets to trade, and Dalton Knecht I think at best next season is an eighth man and probably is an eighth, ninth man. And when thinking about the Lakers trying to get a starting center or a starting wing, you need to give something up to get that player.”
In short, if the Lakers make a major trade, which is entirely possible, Knecht will surely be sacrificed. He’s not the most important player, and after the cancellation of his trade last February for Mark Williams to the Hornets, the relationship between the player and the organization may be beyond repair. His trade is therefore a good idea.
