Given that he was voted the 2024-25 regular season MVP, one might think Shai Gilgeous-Alexander would deserve superstar status. Except, according to one polemicist, he’s far from it… though his argument is unclear.

What constitutes an NBA superstar? A thorny question, as the criteria for defining this status have never been clearly established. Do you need championship titles, an MVP, or All-Star Game selections to qualify? It’s impossible to answer this question, but certain players seem like obvious candidates.

Among them is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Not only did he just post three consecutive seasons averaging 30 points or more, but the Canadian was the regular season MVP and the league’s leading scorer. Chris Russo’s ludacrious speech on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

And yet, not everyone seems to agree, even if their arguments are bizarre, to say the least. Among the guard’s detractors is Chris Russo, who is famous for his outrageous statements on ESPN. However, the controversial figure went completely off the rails on First Take:

Chris Russo: Giannis is a superstar. Jokic is a superstar. Luka’s a superstar.

Jay Williams: SGA ?

Chris Russo: No. Absolutely not. Not a superstar. Not yet. He’s gotta win a championship first.

Molly Qerim: Kevin Durant ?

Chris Russo: No. Absolutely not.

Now, it’s hard to understand how “Mad Dog” thinks… Indeed, it’s worth remembering that Luka Doncic isn’t an NBA champion yet, having lost in the Finals last year to the Celtics. As for Kevin Durant, he has two rings…

@OH_SportsTalk: It’s impressive how little Mad Dog knows about the NBA.

@thisisHiram: Why is Mad Dog the way he is? I don’t understand. lol.
