Present this Friday in Indianapolis for Game 4 of the Finals between Pacers and Thunder, Stephen A. Smith did not go unnoticed. Kevin Durant took great pleasure in publicly humiliating him, and Smith’s response only made matters worse.

Once again in this series, suspense was the order of the day in the final hours. Game 4 of the NBA Finals between the Pacers and the Thunder produced another thrilling finish, this time in favor of OKC (111-104). Stephen A. Smith didn’t really seem captivated by the scenario, as he was caught by a fan playing… solitaire:

Stephen A. Smith’s flawed response to Kevin Durant’s tackle

Always vocal on the set of First Take, Stephen A. recently insisted that Tyrese Haliburton was not a superstar. His lack of interest in this Friday’s game has since earned him some harsh criticism on the networks. Not only from resentful Pacers fans, but also… from Kevin Durant, who relayed the above photo in his Instagram story with the following comment:

Kevin Durant: Steve, come on man

Faced with the extent to which this soap opera has taken hold, the ESPN journalist ended up reacting to it on X and tried to defend himself in the most skilful way possible:

Stephen A. Smith: Yep, that’s me. Who would have thought I could… multitask. Especially during TIMEOUTS! I hope you’re all enjoying the NBA Finals. It’s going 7 games now, peeps!

So, according to Smith’s version, this videogame interlude on his phone took place during a time-out, and not in the middle of a match. It’s true that this would have allowed him to justify such an act and calm the ardor towards him… if it were the truth. However, a video that has also gone viral clearly proves the opposite. And I’m not sure that the excuse of multitasking will be enough to get him off the hook.
