With the NBA Draft fast approaching, rumors linked to the event are multiplying. One of them, which mentions discussions about a possible trade between Spurs and 76ers, could materialize via a swap announced as “perfect”.
Before the hustle and bustle of free agency, the NBA Draft also tends to cause a few jolts around the league. Some teams are under the spell of a particular prospect, and will go to any lengths to obtain him, closing large-scale trades to do so. This scenario could be played out in the next few days, at the initiative of… the 76ers.
The 76ers-Spurs deal deemed ideal in the United States
With the #3 pick, the Sixers seem to have been relatively well off for this year’s draft. Now, they’d supposedly like to move up the board and get their hands on the 2nd pick, owned by… the Spurs. But how do you convince the Spurs to give it up? Zachary Howell of ClutchPoints tried to answer this question with the suggestion of a trade sold as “perfect”:
- The San Antonio Spurs receive: Kelly Oubre Jr., 3rd pick of the 2025 NBA Draft
- The Philadelphia 76ers receive: Jeremy Sochan, 2nd pick of the 2025 NBA Draft
According to the American journalist, San Antonio managers could be tempted by this first package, particularly because of the presence of Kelly Oubre Jr. He could thus render proud services to the Texan franchise:
Oubre Jr. can fill a role similar to that of (Keldon) Johnson and Harrison Barnes, and replace one of them in the event of a departure. His defense would also greatly improve a team that lacks outside defenders. If the Spurs make this deal, their major five could be Fox, Castle, Vassell, Oubre and Wembanyama. And if they all stay healthy, their team’s defense should grow as a result.
The 76ers, meanwhile, would get back not only the pick they covet, but also a Jeremy Sochan who could also prove very useful in Philadelphia :
Sochan would bring an interesting style of play to Nick Nurse’s offensive system. He also represents a capable small-ball pivot and could fit in well alongside Joel Embiid, allowing the former MVP to get away from the basket without his team suffering on the rebound. What’s more, he showed that he was capable of making great cuts to the basket for the Spurs, which could be transferred to Philadelphia.
It’s worth noting, however, that the latest insider tips would tend to nip such a proposal in the bud.
