Things could soon shift in San Antonio. With the Draft fast approaching, the Texas franchise is exploring all options to best support Victor Wembanyama. And in internal talks, a name previously mentioned keeps coming up insistently.
The Spurs know they need reliable shooters to create space around Victor Wembanyama. Spacing is a top priority for the coaching staff, and Cam Johnson ticks several boxes coming from the Nets. At 28, the former Suns player has shown he can shoot around 40% from three while offering defensive versatility. A sought-after profile, especially since he would be available.
The Texans, who hold several valuable assets, could quickly become serious contenders for this deal. It’s known that the team showed interest in Johnson before, and the current situation might push them to reopen talks. This option makes sense, particularly if San Antonio wants to progress without rushing things.
An additional shooter for the Spurs?

Esidery : “Another top shooter generating tons of trade interest ahead of the 2025 NBA Draft is Cam Johnson. Contenders are willing to offer the Nets draft capital for Johnson, and Brooklyn has also considered packaging him in a deal to move up as well.”
Cam Johnson may not be a star of the first order, but his contribution could transform the Spurs’ offense. By pulling opposing defenses to the perimeter, he would give Wembanyama more room to operate inside, where the Frenchman is already dominant. He’s also an experienced player who can mentor the young squad while fitting into a medium-term plan.
What the Nets will ask in return remains to be seen. Brooklyn might seek to move up in the Draft or get young talent in exchange. San Antonio, holding the 2nd and 14th picks this year, will need to balance immediate progress with patient building. But in any case, Cam Johnson looks like a target both logical and attainable.
A move like this wouldn’t headline like a superstar trade but could deeply impact San Antonio’s game. Sometimes, an intelligent adjustment is all it takes to change a franchise’s trajectory, and Johnson could be that missing link.
