Last summer, during the finals of the Paris Olympics – the biggest game of his career – Guerschon Yabusele shocked the basketball world by dunking on LeBron James. But did they do it again when the Lakers and Sixers faced off this season?

Guerschon Yabusele must have mixed feelings about his first full season in the NBA. On an individual level, the interior quickly proved that he belonged in the league and had the ability to contribute to any squad. Collectively, however, he found himself in the depths of the Eastern Conference, something he hadn’t expected when he signed.

By recruiting Paul George and teaming him up with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, Sixers management no doubt thought they were creating a squad capable of challenging for the Eastern Conference title. Unfortunately, between injuries and sporting disappointments, Philadelphia ended up with the third pick in the next draft. Now a free agent, the Frenchman may have the opportunity to jump ship.

In short, whatever the future holds for him, no one will forget that he’s back on the other side of the Atlantic thanks to his huge dunk on LeBron James in the Paris Games final. Speaking to beIN Sports in recent days about his summer with the French team and his future, Guerschon Yabusele also talked about his reunion with the King during the season:

I didn’t talk to LeBron about that dunk during the season, but I did feel a few glances when we played the Lakers. He avoided meeting my eyes, I think. I looked at him a little. It was quite a funny situation. The first game was in Los Angeles, I had a pretty good game, we fought well, it was a pretty cool experience.LeBron James ignored Guerschon Yabusele this season.

I can play well against LeBron, and it’s funny because someone said that to me last time. They said, “He always plays well against the big teams”. I laughed and replied that that’s what you have to do to sign for those teams. You have to try and put in good performances at times like these.

LeBron James could have talked to Guerschon Yabusele about that famous dunk that changed the Frenchman’s career. He could have congratulated him or asked him to thank him for his return to the NBA. But clearly, he played the ignorance card instead, not looking his opponent in the eye. If the latter signs for the Lakers, which he seems ready to do, they may have the opportunity to debrief the Finals.
