Could Kevin Durant join the Spurs this summer? That’s the big question just weeks before free agency kicks off. But the trail linking the two-time NBA champion to the Texans is fading by the day, according to one expert.
It’s bound to be one of the hottest stories of the summer, but it’s likely going to drag on. While Kevin Durant is a bonafied NBA superstar, one of the best scorers in history and a former MVP, that doesn’t mean the rest of the league is doing everything it can to acquire him, as the forward looks to quickly leave the Suns.
It must be said that the failure of his move to Arizona has put off more than one person, especially since he is now 37 years old. An aging and expensive player is not going to attract many managers… The options for moving are therefore few and far between, and KD is not ready to consider them all, since he is reportedly refusing to join Anthony Edwards at the Timberwolves.
Has the trail between Kevin Durant and the Spurs gone cold?
Conversely, the Knicks and Rockets reportedly aren’t interested in signing him, despite his interest in both teams. As a result, the Slim Reaper seems to have set his sights on San Antonio and has even made the Spurs his priority. But wanting to go there is one thing; actually doing so is quite another…
As analyst Kirk Goldsberry recently revealed on Zach Lowe’s podcast, negotiations between Phoenix and the Texans have stalled:
I know our friends in San Antonio think the price is too high, and the original discussions inclunding the n°2 pick and/or Stephon Castle are not going very well on the Spurs’ telephone, I can tell you that.
Phoenix is willing to let go of Kevin Durant, but not for just anything. We’re talking the second overall pick in the upcoming draft as well as the reigning Rookie of the Year, but also players like Jeremy Sochan and Devin Vassell… all in one package. Even for the two-time NBA champion, that’s a lot (too much) according to most fans:
@PerSources: Doesn’t make sense to trade a top 10 pick for Kevin Durant.
@south_southBoy: No one will make that trade for KD that has just maybe 2-3 years left to play
@showtimeluka: Spurs would be idiotic to do that.
@JustBetOnchain: This is the greed they talked about in the bible
