A red-hot rumor is spreading through the NBA: a possible blockbuster trade involving Kevin Durant and Rudy Gobert. The coming days could be decisive for the French center, who is now seriously threatened by a move.

As time goes on, a Kevin Durant trade seems inevitable. The player wants out, the Suns want to recover as many assets as possible, and several teams are positioning themselves. Among them: the Timberwolves. According to multiple sources, they are currently the frontrunners to land the superstar—even though Durant would clearly prefer to join the Spurs. Minnesota’s project doesn’t excite him, but the deal on the table could appeal to Phoenix.

@esidery : “Rudy Gobert is believed to be the best player offered to the Suns thus far in Kevin Durant trade talks. The Timberwolves’ offer is built around Gobert + Donte DiVincenzo, two win-now veterans. Even though Durant doesn’t want to be there, Minnesota might be the current favorite.”

A trade looming for Rudy Gobert

This rumor is gaining traction because Gobert is now more available than ever. Disappointing in the 2025 playoffs—especially against OKC’s youth—the French center is no longer viewed as essential in Minnesota. The franchise appears ready to invest fully in Naz Reid, whose extension is a top priority this summer. So parting ways with Gobert is no longer off-limits, especially for a player of Durant’s caliber.

The situation remains uncertain, however, as the Suns could still try to drive up the price by waiting for a better offer. It will also depend on Durant’s stance, as he may try to block certain destinations. But at this point, even without his approval, the Timberwolves seem ready to go all-in. They know that opportunities like this don’t come often.

The idea of a Kevin Durant–Anthony Edwards duo is already fueling excitement among Timberwolves fans. One is a veteran with a legendary resume, the other a rising star with a fierce mindset. On paper, their partnership could deliver an explosive mix of talent, experience, and offensive firepower. Edwards—often compared to legends for his scoring and mentality—would benefit tremendously from KD’s mentorship. If the chemistry works, Minnesota could be a serious contender as early as next season.

The real question for Phoenix now: would they rather take back veterans who can win now, or gamble on young talent for the long haul? We may have an answer by the June 25 draft.
