In all likelihood, LeBron James will continue to play in the NBA for at least another season. After that, many doors should open for his post-career… one of which he has already closed.

In most cases, this kind of decision seems logical and in keeping with the times. As NBA stars’ bodies begin to fail them, they find themselves almost obliged to retire. This physical decline can sometimes take place beyond the age of 40, and can be seen in their performances, which decline statistically. For the time being, however, LeBron James has escaped this phenomenon.

As sharp as ever, the Lakers’ leader still looks capable of extending his career for many years to come. This would come as no surprise to any of his younger team-mates. Despite this, he is likely to put an end to it in the coming months and focus on other potential projects close to his heart, some of them basketball-related. One of these, however, would not tempt him in the least.

LeBron rejects possible reconversion

Alongside his 22 seasons in the NBA, LeBron has already been able to diversify his activities and open up a variety of career paths. In fact, one of them has recently come his way. Another would be to operate on the NBA bench as a coach. However, he and Steve Nash simultaneously dismissed this possibility in their podcast Mind The Game:

Steve Nash: Alfonso Taylor asks you, “LeBron, what team would you like to coach if you were to become a coach…” Let me interrupt the question right now. Please don’t become a coach!

LeBron James: (Laughs) No way! There’s no way, guys. Alfonso Taylor, thanks for your kind question but it’s not going to happen, no matter what team! No chance.

Fans hoping to see the King stay close to the game once he retires are going to have to change their minds. The King clearly has no desire to go down that road, which may come as a surprise. After all, he has already been spotted coaching his sons’ teams, Bronny and Bryce, on the high school circuit, and has long been considered the shadow coach of his franchises.

That said, given the aspirations he has already expressed, this outright rejection of LBJ is understandable. Endowed with a colossal fortune, he would see himself taking control of a franchise and becoming its owner, rather than simply giving instructions to his players. For the time being, however, he must remain focused on his current mission, which is to bring the Lakers another title.
