Always on the lookout for Kevin Durant, the Spurs are no less attentive to the rest of the market and are keeping an eye on other potential targets. One of them, whose value in the NBA continues to rise, is also on the Thunder’s radar.

While some franchises prefer to move forward in the shadows and not reveal their ambitions, they made them clear a long time ago. Tired of occupying the bottom of the Western Conference standings, the Spurs want to get back into the title race. To this end, they have been very active behind the scenes, seeking the best possible reinforcements to improve their squad.

This includes not only prestigious leads such as Kevin Durant, but also those linked to the upcoming draft. After all, San Antonio must take a close look at the prospects in the 2025 draft, as they own the No.2 and No.14 picks. So, in addition to the very promising Dylan Harper, whom they don’t seem to want to let get away, another young talent is said to have caught their eye.

While they haven’t ruled out the possibility of parting with him as part of a transfer, the Spurs are also considering drafting a player with the 14th pick. And according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, one of their targets at this position would be Cedric Coward:

Brett Siegel: According to sources, a large number of teams with lottery picks have expressed an interest in Cedric Coward.

Coward has even generated interest from a team like the Pelicans, who hold the 7th pick, as well as Houston. Although he didn’t play much this season due to a shoulder injury, franchises admired his physical condition, athleticism and high basketball IQ during the pre-Draft process. He is seen as a winger capable of contributing directly to a playoff team.

The Spurs and Thunder are two teams worth mentioning as potential destinations for Coward.

After spending two NCAA seasons with Eastern Washington, Coward has particularly distinguished himself in recent months in the colors of Washington State. His performances and measurements at the Draft Combine have further enhanced his NBA credentials, and have clearly not escaped the attention of the Spurs. Expert Sam Vecenie of The Athletic considers him a smart choice for the Texans:

Sam Vecenie: The Spurs could use more wingers to pair with their flurry of backs and Victor Wembanyama. Especially wingers who can shoot from distance like Coward.
