Even though the Suns have been tough on business so far, the Spurs are reportedly still in the running for Kevin Durant. In order to put all their chances on their side, they would also like to recruit another target linked to the Slim Reaper.

So many twists and turns. With the draft fast approaching, the Kevin Durant soap opera has yet to make any significant headway in recent days. In any case, no agreement has been reached between the Suns and another franchise on a transfer. However, there is no shortage of suitors, and neither is there a shortage of preferred destinations for the player in question. A list that includes San Antonio.

Supposedly attracted by the prospect of playing for Spurs, the star winger would no doubt like to play alongside a phenomenon like Victor Wembanyama before the end of his career. After all, he could win another league title in the process. For the time being, however, the Texan franchise is unable to come up with the right offer… but is sure to seduce its prestigious target.

Spurs ready to do double for Kevin Durant?

Based on the latest information from The Athletic, Durant would prefer a future in San Antonio. The Spurs could therefore settle for this, and use this desire in negotiations. In reality, their plan would be more developed and strategic. With a view to persuading the Slim Reaper to press for a move, they have embarked on a side mission, according to Marc Stein:

Marc Stein: Several teams, including the San Antonio Spurs, have been chasing Rockets assistant coach Royal Ivey this off-season. That said, the trend is for Ivey to stay in Houston.

So what does this little-known assistant coach have to do with KD? It turns out that the two men are close, if not very close. Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson explains:

Brandon Robinson: Royal Ivey, currently an assistant coach with the Rockets, is a close friend of Kevin Durant and the father of KD’s goddaughter. Ivey played a big role in Durant’s decision to join the University of Texas. The two were also teammates at the OKC Thunder.

So it could be that the Spurs are looking to attract Ivey in order to give Durant one more reason to join them.

Unfortunately for them, it would appear that the Rockets aren’t willing to give up this major asset. And what could be more logical, given that they too are hoping to get their hands on the 2014 MVP. The fact that they do not wish to include Alperen Sengun and Amen Thompson in a possible package sent to the Suns poses a problem, however, and is preventing the two franchises from reaching an agreement for the time being.
