In theory, Dallas would have to pay a huge sum to acquire Kevin Durant this summer. But an insider has suggested a solution to achieve this without giving up their first pick… nor Kyrie Irving or Anthony Davis. It would be quite a feat.

Where will Kevin Durant play in 2025-26? No one has an answer to that question yet, not even the player himself. He doesn’t want to join the Timberwolves, but the Knicks are rejecting his offers. The Spurs are a likely candidate, but the Suns are reportedly too greedy. His situation is turning into a headache.

As a result, other franchises could jump into the breach. Insider Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson has also rekindled the Mavericks’ interest. While Phoenix could logically demand the first pick of the 2025 draft in return, the journalist imagined another structure for this trade that would send the two-time NBA champion to Dallas:

The possibly genius trade proposed to the Mavs to acquire KD

For the Mavs and KD to work — without giving up the No. 1 pick in the 2025 Draft: (Hypothetical scenario) : Dallas sends out Klay Thompson, PJ Washington, Daniel Gafford, Max Christie and a 2029 first-round pick (via Lakers). Wrote this a while back, but worth revisiting: both Kyrie and KD had real interest in teaming up again post-Brooklyn

At one point, they both wanted to land in Phoenix together. The trades didn’t align. Free agency and cap space didn’t line up either. A Dallas reunion? It’d be cool — and not out of the question. Kyrie, I’m told, is rehabbing well. Other tidbit: As far back as June of last year, the Mavs and Rockets were intrigued by KD. Chicago Bulls had registered interest too around that time!

Landing the Slim Reaper without having to give up their first-round pick, which includes Cooper Flagg, Kyrie Irving, or Anthony Davis, would be a real feat for the Texans. Their team could then be quite terrifying once Uncle Drew recovers from his serious knee injury. That’s assuming such a trade actually happens, of course, which fans are absolutely not buying at the moment.

@GysfmpovChris: And that’s wayyyyyy to steep

@bwoolf1919: No chance would be the worst offer suns got so far.

@akkphx26: Phoenix shouldn’t even consider this
