Less publicized than her French teammate Marine Johannès, Gabby Williams is having a big season in Seattle. In fact, she’s so good, she’s been complimented by legend Sue Bird.
A marvel at the Paris Olympics – she came within inches of sending France into overtime in the final against Team USA – Gabby Williams will not be representing her country this summer. Indeed, the Les Bleues superstar has decided to concentrate on her WNBA season and remain in Seattle alongside Dominique Malonga.
Unlike her young team-mate, who is short of playing time, Williams is establishing herself as a benchmark in the league, averaging 14.4 points, 4.3 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 2.2 steals every night, all while shooting over 40% from behind the arc. If she continues at this pace, she could well be selected for the first All-Star Game of her career. At 28, she’s at her prime.

As well as delighting Storm fans, who went into the season with certain ambitions, Gabby Williams is getting observers to agree. Speaking on Cameron Brink’s podcast, young Los Angeles star Sue Bird gave her opinion on the Tricolor’s recent performances. When one of the best players in history speaks, we listen.
I just saw my first Seattle game from the sidelines this season, and Gabby Williams was on fire. Gabby’s always been strong, obviously, and I got to play with her in my last season. It’s a pleasure to be around her every day, she brings joy. But at the moment, I have the impression that her experiences in Europe and with the French team have enabled her to turn a corner. She has posted career-best statistics in virtually every major category. I’d like to pay tribute to her.
Gabby Williams has never been stronger, and according to legend Sue Bird, who played with her for a season, this is the result of her time in Europe and with the French team. Williams is now used to having responsibilities, and she handles this requirement much better. The results are obvious on the pitch.
