As the most renowned journalist in the NBA sphere, he receives a great deal of attention every time he speaks, as he did again on Monday. On Hoop Streams, Shams Charania took part in a debate on Kevin Durant’s future in the league. In fact, his body language got everyone talking when Iman Shumpert mentioned the Spurs option:

Faced with the magnitude of this sequence, Charania was quick to explain it on the Pat McAfee Show, thus calming the exaltation of Spurs Nation:

Shams Charania: I have to talk about this, because I loved seeing the body language experts at work and the tweets that I was making it clear that Durant was going to join the Spurs.

In fact, here’s what happened. It was my first time on ESPN’s Hoop Streams, which aired just before Game 5 of the Finals. And at that point, I was just gathering my surroundings. Shump was making some greatt points about the Spurs and Kevin Durant, but I, as an insider, was just wondering if it was realistic.

To tell the truth, I wasn’t even necessarily listening to what he was saying. But mostly, I was trying to see if the control room was doing close-ups on the person speaking, or staying on a fixed wide shot. So I made sure to spot the camera that was filming us, so I knew where to look when it was my turn to speak. In the end, I realized that there was only one wide shot, which suited me just fine.

No, this scene, worthy of The Office, supposedly contained no hidden message. According to him, Shams was simply doing some technical scouting and wasn’t trying to offer any information with his camera gaze. He even made it clear afterwards what the Spurs’ intentions were, as they may well pull out of the KD deal in order to make a bigger splash on the market.
