NBA – Far from the Spurs, is Chris Paul’s next team already known?

Though his future remains uncertain, some options are beginning to emerge for Chris Paul. The veteran point guard, coming off a lackluster season with the Spurs, may very well be on the move this summer.

With the arrival of De’Aaron Fox and rookie Stephon Castle in San Antonio, Paul’s place in the rotation is increasingly unclear. And it might not stop there: the Spurs hold the second overall pick in the 2025 Draft, and all signs point to them selecting point guard Dylan Harper—another backcourt addition that would further limit Paul’s minutes.

In this context, a departure appears almost inevitable for the 39-year-old veteran. While he remains a respected leader and locker-room presence, Paul isn’t looking to spend the final stretch of his career glued to the bench. His name has already come up in several discussions, and some analysts are predicting where he might land next. Logically, he would target a team where he could get meaningful playing time—especially early in the season. That’s where the Dallas Mavericks come into play.

Is Dallas the logical next stop for Chris Paul?

Eric Pincus : “San Antonio may want Paul back because of who he is and what he’s capable of doing, but with De’Aaron Fox, rookie of the year Stephon Castle and guard Dylan Harper (the  Spurs’ presumed No. 2 overall pick), the veteran may choose a team giving him a greater opportunity to play.”

“While he has strong ties to Los Angeles (Lakers and Clippers), where his family has lived (don’t count them out), he may go to a team with an injured starting point guard. Prediction: The Dallas Mavericks, who need a replacement guard until Kyrie Irving is healthy, use the TMLE on Paul.”

It’s just a prediction for now—but not an unrealistic one.

The theory makes sense. Irving, who injured his foot during the playoffs, is expected to miss several months, leaving a clear gap in the backcourt alongside Anthony Davis. CP3, despite his age, remains one of the most cerebral and seasoned floor generals in the league. He could bring stability to the second unit—or even start some games if needed.

The fit in Dallas seems natural, especially for a franchise that’s aiming high and whose GM Nico Harrison is under pressure. Paul wouldn’t need to carry the team but could play a pivotal role in key moments, while mentoring the younger players. If the Mavericks put together the right offer, they may just win the CP3 sweepstakes.
