Still alive and fighting for the title, the Pacers never cease to impress observers. Shocked, some even accuse them of resorting to supernatural practices, to which Pascal Siakam has responded in recent hours.

Just a few weeks ago, no one would have predicted that their season would still be going strong right now. In fact, only the Pacers and a few of their fans thought they were capable of springing such a surprise. Nevertheless, it’s clear that they can be crowned champions this Sunday, at the end of a historic Game 7 against the Thunder. Despite the accusations levelled at them.

Pascal Siakam at the heart of Pacers ‘witchcraft’? He answers

Impressively resilient, Rick Carlisle’s men have resorted to acts of witchcraft to get this far according to some fans. And according to them, the operation undergone by Darius Garland and the recent trade of Desmond Bane, both from Indiana, are part of this process. As does the viral and shocking Pascal Siakam sequence, which the latter commented on in a press conference:

Pascal Siakam: I didn’t realize there was a buzz about it until it was shown to me in the dressing room. I’m not really into social networking, so it was my team-mates who introduced me to it.

Caught by ESPN’s cameras with revolting eyes on the sidelines of Game 6, Siakam wouldn’t exactly be a newcomer to the game. He explains:

Pascal Siakam: We were praying and I tried to close my eyes, but I have this problem where I can’t really close them. Like, sometimes I feel like my eyelids are closed, but they’re not really. Even when I’m talking to someone, sometimes I think and look up at the sky, and it gives the same result.

Usually in these cases I run my hands over my eyelids to make sure they’re closed, but I didn’t do that this time and it was caught on camera (…) I have to watch out for that now!

The Cameroon winger was reportedly warned before the incident, which in any case had nothing to do with witchcraft:

Pascal Siakam: Once, during the national anthem, my agent noticed this and told me to stop right after. It’s the kind of moment when I pray and think my eyes are closed, but clearly they’re not. I really need to get into the reflex of running my hands over my eyes. In fact, I’m going to lower my head from now on, so you won’t be able to look at me!
