Having defeated the Pacers in the Finals, Oklahoma City is now the NBA champion. And that could well be just the beginning, as the franchise’s future looks terrifying, as ClutchPoints revealed after its triumph.

The NBA has rarely been as diverse as it is today. Whatever one might say about the level of play and the style of basketball played in 2025, it’s clear that retaining a championship title has become extremely difficult. As proof, the Larry O’Brien Trophy has been held by seven different teams in as many years.

This season, it was the Thunder who reached the top of the league by defeating the Pacers. A matchup few expected at this stage of the competition, but it shows that the NBA is full of teams capable of going all the way if the conditions are right. That being said, OKC could become the first dynasty since the Warriors of the 2010s…

Thunder’s bright future after 2025 title win

As things stand, the franchise has a lot of assets in hand: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander became MVP of the regular season and then of the Finals, the cast around him is young and what’s more, he is masterfully coached by Mark Daigneault. Without abusing trades to strengthen itself, Oklahoma City has managed to build a very strong team and it should continue like this according to the website ClutchPoints:

After two rebuilding processes since relocating to OKC, a Sam Presti-built Thunder team has finally broken through — and the league has to be very afraid, as the Thunder’s reign of terror may only be beginning. For starters, the Thunder became the second-youngest team to win an NBA championship. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is only about to turn 27 years old this July. Meanwhile, Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren are 24 and 23 years of age, respectively.

This alone means that OKC’s core trio is only going to get better from here. But beyond that, the Thunder’s draft-pick cupboard is as well-stocked as any other team’s, putting them in position to replenish the team’s talent base for years and years to come. In fact, as The Athletic pointed out in a post on X, they have 11 first-round picks over the next seven years to either bring in new young talent or to trade for more established players to try and keep the championship train rolling.

Since taking over in 2007, GM Sam Presti has become known for his accumulation of picks and his golden draft choices. Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Jalen Williams, Chet Holmgren: all were selected by him, and he was also behind the arrival of SGA. His efforts have paid off so well that his franchise always has a plethora of assets to strengthen its position…
