Despite limited playing time throughout the season and in the Finals, Ousmane Dieng was able to enjoy the Thunder’s championship on Sunday. That, before celebrating in the locker room… with a slightly shameful assessment.

The league’s best team at the end of the regular season, they ultimately lived up to their billing and lifted the Larry O’Brien Trophy. The Thunder players were therefore able to smile on Sunday, after a 103-91 victory over Indiana in Game 7 of the Finals. They were also able to celebrate in the traditional way with bottles of champagne… but had a hard time uncorking them:

Ousmane Dieng’s hilarious confession about the Thunder’s title

Unable to open his own bottle in the Paycom Center locker room, Ousmane Dieng was forced to admit the obvious to Xavier Colombani and Loïc Pialat for L’Équipe:

Ousmane Dieng: It was one of the worst celebrations in history! I just don’t think we’re any good – nobody knew how to break out the champagne!

At just 22 years of age, the French winger could in truth hide behind his youth to justify such a failure. But that didn’t take anything away from his joy, as he played just over five minutes in the Finals and became the seventh French player to be crowned NBA champion. It’s a status he was still struggling to realize in the minutes that followed his achievement:

Ousmane Dieng: I don’t think I’ve realized it yet. Frankly, it’s a dream come true. When it all comes down again in two days’ time, I’m really going to realize what’s happened.

After a hectic Sunday night, Dieng will have plenty of time to reflect on his remarkable achievement. Not forgetting, of course, to celebrate with the fans of his franchise in the streets of Okhaloma City, before turning his attention to what’s next… and a possible participation in the Eurobasket with the French national team:

Ousmane Dieng: There’s the parade in two days’ time and then we’ll see. I haven’t thought about the summer yet. I was very focused on the playoffs and then on the Finals.
