With Gregg Popovich retiring as San Antonio’s head coach, his assistant Mitch Johnson has been confirmed as his successor. And the hype surrounding him is substantial, at least as far as betting sites are concerned.

What will the Spurs do this summer? One thing is certain: they won’t sign Kevin Durant, since the Suns just traded him to the Rockets. As for Giannis Antetokounmpo, there’s a good chance he’ll stay with the Bucks, as they have no intention of parting ways with him, especially since he hasn’t officially asked to leave.

While many observers expected the Texans to recruit superstars in the coming weeks, the Texans’ 2025 offseason could be more muted than expected. On the other hand, reinforcements are needed to take the team to the next level, as well as to further support Victor Wembanyama. The No. 2 pick in the upcoming draft will help in this regard, but it won’t be enough to play a leading role.

Mitch Johnson favorite to be Coach of the Year

Another thing to watch closely is Mitch Johnson’s performance. A former assistant to Gregg Popovich, he was promoted to interim head coach last year following the Hall of Famer’s health concerns. With the latter now retired, San Antonio wanted to play the continuity card and promoted Johnson permanently. A very good choice, apparently, if we’re to believe the bookmakers:

Mitch Johnson is the favorite to win Coach of the Year next season, per Bovada.

A hell of a prediction, given that the tactician in question wasn’t always convincing last year. On the other hand, this was his first season as head coach, and he’ll arrive in 2025-26 with that added experience. But for now, few are convinced by this far-in-advance prediction:

@CurriGoat: Based off of what lmao

@CookedByPayne: Dawg we don’t even know how good he is yet

@BeardisGoat: Spurs won’t even make the playoffs next season lol
