Alex Caruso won his second title this Sunday with the Thunder, following the one he won in the Orlando bubble with the Lakers. However, faced with the magnitude of his comments on this first triumph, he was quick to clarify his thoughts.
Regardless of who was going to win this Game 7, very few players on either team had ever tasted the joys of a title. Only Pascal Siakam and Thomas Bryant had already won a championship ring for the Pacers, while the list was limited to Alex Caruso for the Thunder. In the end, it was Caruso who lifted the Larry O’Brien Trophy for the second time in his career on Sunday.
Still valuable coming off the bench (10 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals), OKC’s experienced guard celebrated his crowning achievement with his teammates. No doubt reminiscent of the celebrations he took part in in the same context in 2020, when he was playing for the Lakers. Nevertheless, he didn’t fail to point out the differences between these two crowning achievements… even if it did annoy.
Alex Caruso explains his viral take on his Lakers title
Before adding another title to his trophy cabinet in the last few hours, Caruso had won his first in the Orlando bubble. For many, however, this title came with an asterisk, given the particular conditions under which it was won. He therefore decided to have some fun with it in his press conference… before having to retract his comments via X following the controversy that ensued:
Alex Caruso : I had 3 beers already, it’s SARCASM!!
– two time
No, Caruso doesn’t consider his ring he won with the Lakers to be “fake”, despite what he may have implied in his now-viral outing. According to him, the effects of alcohol simply led him to deliver this allegedly ill-perceived joke.
This quick clarification was also appreciated by part of Lakers Nation, who obviously don’t hold it against him, or don’t hold it against him any more:
@PurpGolded: Alright bro, I appreciate you clarifying this. I spoke badly of you, but now you have my full support again
@notcrypticno: Good recovery twin you’re so tough
@BronMuse: It’s all good bro lmao we knew you was messin around 😂🤝
Other Internet users were amused by this statement, which they believe may well have been forced:
@tofushit888: BRO GOT A CALL FROM LE GM LMAOOOOO
@Sudharsan_AK10: Klutch made the call and wanted this tweet out huhh 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@BronWorld: They really made him clarify it 💀
