Because Jayson Tatum will be injured, and title hopes will be nil, the Celtics have decided to make a clean sweep of the roster, just to save money. In particular, Kristaps Porzingis has been sent to Atlanta, reviving an old rumor about him.
It’s been a foregone conclusion ever since their elimination by the Knicks in the conference semi-finals: the Celtics have imploded their squad. This Tuesday, in the space of a few hours, GM Brad Stevens got rid of Jrue Holiday, who played a major role in winning the title in 2024, and then Kristaps Porzingis, an inside player averaging 20 points.
Add to this the serious injury to Jayson Tatum, who could well have an off-season, and Boston’s roster will look very different come the new season. It was the Hawks who took advantage of this situation, picking up a potential All-Star for very little money. As soon as he took office, the new GM sent a strong message to Trae Young, Jalen Johnson and the rest of the gang.
The crazy rumor about Kristaps Porzingis after his trade
Finally, one question is still being asked on both sides, in Massachusetts as in Georgia: why did the Celtics agree to let go of such a talented lad in exchange for a replacement like Georges Niang? On social networks, a rumor that’s been circulating for a few weeks now has created quite a buzz.
Porzingis 100% actually has aids if they could only get George Niang for him. https://t.co/N8SjAvXEyK

Kristaps Porzingis missed several games during the regular season and playoffs due to a mysterious “illness” that the Celtics wouldn’t name. Fans based their diagnosis on his symptoms, and the rumor mill has been churning ever since that the Latvian has HIV. Inevitably, seeing him traded for players much weaker than him has fuelled this bizarre story.
@sageBiTT: “Putting together a trade for a player who has HIV, that’s a decision that looks very much like the Hawks.”
@DylanEveryday: “In his career, he’s been traded for Dennis Smith, Davis Bertans, Marcus Smart and Georges Niang, there’s no question he’s sick.”
@scryptingg: “His duo with Trae Young, for the 30 games he’s healthy, is going to be crazy.”
