Nolan Traoré was at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center this Wednesday for the draft, and he won’t have to move as he’s been selected by the Nets. In a press conference, he was asked about life in such a big city, and he seems eager to settle in.

After a wonderful playoff campaign in 2024, some Betclic Elite followers were calling Nolan Traoré one of the best prospects on the planet. In fact, when he was invited by Vincent Collet for the start of the preparation camp for the Paris Olympics, his name was even mentioned with the French team, where the point guard position is a weak spot.

Unfortunately, and quite understandably for such a young player, Nolan Traoré struggled to live up to expectations in his confirmation season with Saint-Quentin. With an average of 11.6 points and 5.1 assists, all at less than 40% shooting success, the man touted as Tony Parker’s successor finally fell out of the draft predictions.

At one time announced as a top-5 pick alongside monsters Cooper Flagg, Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey, the tricolore finally had to wait until the 19ᵉ position to hear his name in Adam Silver’s mouth. It’s with the Nets that he’ll start his NBA adventure, with the chance to make a real place for himself on the roster. In a press conference, he imagined himself living in New York.

“Brooklyn, and so New York, it’s maybe the best city in the world. So it’s great to be able to move there. And the Nets are a really well-known franchise in the world, with a great coach and good management. I think it’s a good place for me to grow, progress, and build something really impressive in the future.”

“I’m going to bring a lot of speed to the team’s game and also my game intelligence. I’ll be able to make the right decisions and the right choices for the team. I’m going to try to make everyone around me better.”

Nolan Traoré wasn’t drafted as early as expected, but he fell into a franchise perfect for him. With the Nets having no immediate ambitions in the Eastern Conference, he should have time to learn behind D’Angelo Russell, while battling with fellow rookies Egor Demin and Ben Saraf for the backup spot. It’s up to him to seize this opportunity and establish himself as a future player in the Big Apple.
