Rudy Gobert dominated the Lakers on Wednesday night, but it’s hardly a surprise given JJ Redick’s decisions. Many people are baffled and are pointing fingers at the coach — and rightfully so.
With 27 points, 24 rebounds, and 2 blocks, Rudy Gobert was simply immense, controlling the paint against the Lakers. The team had absolutely no answer for him, especially with Redick’s coaching choices under fire. The rookie coach has struggled throughout these playoffs, and Game 4 was a perfect example.
In the previous game, Redick decided to keep his starters on the floor for the entire second half — a first in NBA history. The result? Luka Doncic and the rest of the squad were exhausted and collapsed in the fourth quarter. Then in Game 5, Redick benched Jaxson Hayes and never reconsidered his decision.
Lakers’ coach blamed for team’s downfall
Hayes had been starting since the beginning of the series but rarely played more than 10 minutes. LeBron James had even asked for more playing time for him, but Redick disagreed. He benched Hayes on Wednesday, and despite Gobert’s dominance, stuck to his plan. This inability to adapt was outright baffling.
Even TNT had fun with it, cutting to Hayes every time Gobert scored.

A string of bad decisions and zero self-awareness from Redick, who preferred to lash out at journalists rather than own up to his errors. His choices arguably cost the Lakers both of their last two games, with questionable minute distribution and the complete absence of a center in Game 5.
@fahshohim: “JJ Redick would rather let Rudy Gobert set a record than play a center.”
Needless to say, the Lakers’ top priority this summer is clear: sign a center. Now the only question is, who will come in to strengthen the roster? A favorite is already emerging.
