Eliminated in the first round of the playoffs with his Lakers, we can imagine that Luka Doncic is bound to be a little disappointed in the City of Angels. He’ll be back next season, but does he intend to spend his career in Los Angeles? We know a little more.
Luka Doncic joined the Lakers last February in the biggest trade in NBA history, and since then has adapted quite well. His team-mates have done their utmost to allow him to develop his game, even LeBron James, who has clearly accepted the idea that he is no longer the Angelinos’ priority. Quite normal for a player who will turn 41 this year.
That’s it for Doncic now in Los Angeles, to the extent that Rob Pelinka had recruited Mark Williams in February following a suggestion from the Slovenian. The deal didn’t go through for other reasons, but according to ESPN, Luka appreciated being listened to. This may not have been entirely the case when he was with the Mavericks.
Luka Doncic’s future already decided?
It has to be said that the Angelinos want to do everything in their power to keep Doncic for the long term. There’s no question of losing him freely on the market after having let go of Anthony Davis to get him back, so we imagine that the front office will do whatever is necessary. And yet, over the weekend, we learned that the Slovenian might be putting his future on hold.
A rumor that’s bound to worry fans, yet according to Tim MacMahon, Doncic’s priority today remains very clear: winning a title with the Lakers. So it seems that a departure is not on the agenda, whether we’re talking about this summer or the years to come. A very positive rumor for Los Angeles fans.
@TheDunkCentral : “Luka Doncic is ‘fully committed’ to the Lakers, per @espn_macmahon “His heart was broken, but he’s fully committed to the Lakers. His goal now is to win championships with that franchise.'”
So we don’t know if Doncic will reach his goal, but his immediate intention seems clear: to continue playing for the Lakers and fighting to win the first championship of his career. This would therefore confirm his desire to extend his contract, although we don’t yet know the terms. A good thing for everyone, though.
