Deprived of Steph Curry for much of Game 1 against Minnesota, the Warriors were nonetheless able to count on a great Draymond Green. It’s fair to say that the inside man arrived at the Target Center with a light mind after having spilled his guts on a rival.
Most observers were eager to find out how he would behave in this symbolic matchup. In the end, they had little to say on the subject. Draymond Green was more in the news for his performance in Game 1 against the Timberwolves on Tuesday. A performance which enabled his team to win on the road (99-88).
Draymond Green atomizes Dillon Brooks
Draymond made a particularly strong impact in the first half of this match, and looked liberated. It must be said that a few hours earlier, in his podcast, he let loose everything he had on his heart about… Dillon Brooks, whom he had just eliminated in the first round:
Draymond Green: When I say that the playoffs are a chance to see what kind of wood players are made of, that also applies to Dillon Brooks.
At the end of the game, he rushed to the locker room without shaking anyone’s hand. Earlier in the series, he admitted that he was deliberately trying to aggravate Steph’s hand injury. And personally, I’m fine with that! As a basketball player, I understand. But if you want to play it like that, wearing sunglasses in press conferences and playing the big bad wolf, you’ve got to accept defeat!
Don’t be that guy. Because that’s when you lose a lot of people’s respect. (…) But it just goes to show who Dillon Brooks is. He’s a sucker.
Very upset with the Rockets winger, Green continued his tirade by claiming that no Golden State player has any respect for him :
Draymond Green: When you behave like that, other people are bound to respect you a lot less, and it ends up backfiring on you. In the case of Dillon Brooks, he’s had no impact in this series, and that’s largely because nobody respects you on the court! So everything you do isn’t going to benefit your team.
As you can see, Draymond is not a fan of Brooks and his character. He can therefore be pleased that his season has come to an end and that he can now extend his season with the Warriors. It remains to be seen whether the resentment he harbors towards the Canadian will continue to boost him in the series against Minnesota. Steve Kerr and his men certainly wouldn’t complain.
