Despite Stephen Curry’s early injury, the Warriors still came out on top against the Timberwolves. Anthony Edwards wasn’t great, as Chris Finch noticed. In a press conference, the coach set the record straight.
Since last season and his marvellous performances against the Suns and then the Nuggets, Anthony Edwards has been seen as an excellent playoff player, and even better, as a “legendary killer”. At just 23, he can already boast Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, Nikola Jokic, LeBron James and Luka Doncic on his roster.
But the truth is, the Timberwolves’ backcourt wasn’t as dominant as it was last year in the first round against the Lakers. If Minnesota came through, it was mainly thanks to its collective strength and the explosive performances of some of its team-mates, such as Rudy Gobert and his 27 points and 24 rebounds in the decisive game at Crypto.com Arena.
Anthony Edwards reframed by Chris Finch
Unfortunately for his team, Ant Man didn’t make much of an impact when they hosted the Warriors on Tuesday. Despite 23 points, 14 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 assists, the No.5 couldn’t prevent his team’s defeat to the Warriors by a quickly-injured Stephen Curry. Chris Finch denounces his star’s bad attitude.
I don’t see why I should talk to Anthony about his attitude before Game 2. You’re the leader of the team and you have to dictate the tempo every time you step on the court. If your shot doesn’t land, you still have to transmit the right energy. If I have to talk to him about his attitude before the first game of a conference semi-final, we’re not on the same wavelength.
Chris Finch didn’t necessarily appreciate Anthony Edwards’ attitude on Tuesday, but he doesn’t intend to remark on it in the next few days. In his eyes, if a superstar isn’t motivated by the idea of playing a conference semi-final at home, there’s a problem that mere words can’t solve.
What is certain is that the Timberwolves won’t be able to get through this round without a great Ant Man, even if Stephen Curry is injured. Jimmy Butler has a personal vendetta against the franchise, Draymond Green wants to destroy Rudy Gobert as soon as he crosses him, which is likely to carry the Warriors. It’s up to Chris Finch’s men to wake up.
