Victor Wembanyama is very happy at the Spurs, a place where he could spend the rest of his career. That hasn’t stopped one media outlet from imagining him at the Lakers, all in a proposal bordering on the ridiculous. And they didn’t like it.

After their first-round loss in these playoffs, it’s pretty clear that the Lakers absolutely need a pivot for this summer. We don’t yet know who, but Rob Pelinka needs to roll up his sleeves and find a solution to bounce back. Brook Lopez, Naz Reid or Myles Turner: several names have fans dreaming.

A trade is a possibility in order to avoid certain salary constraints linked to free agency, but let’s remember that the Angelinos dropped a lot of assets in the Luka Doncic trade. Pelinka will have to be creative, and Bet US media think they’ve found the solution: get Victor Wembanyama in post 5 to help the Lakers win the title.

Victor Wembanyama at the Lakers? A media outlet lets loose

Yes, we’re talking about Wembanyama, the Spurs’ Frenchman who is already establishing himself as the future face of the NBA and one of the most dominant at his position. His future clearly lies in San Antonio, and yet this media outlet believes it has found the trade to convince the Spurs to let go of the Frenchman. A trade involving no less than 5 players, including Victor.

  • The Lakers receive : Victor Wembanyama
  • Spurs receive: Rui Hachimura, Dorian Finney-Smith, Gabe Vincent, Dalton Knecht and a 2026 first-rounder

Suffice to say, the Spurs aren’t getting anything interesting. Knecht has been discreet in recent months and the 2026 pick won’t be worth much. It makes you wonder who would have wanted to propose such a swap, as if it were credible.

@TyGlasscock247 : “Someone sat down, thought about this trade, thought it was a good idea and so decided to make an image of it for the networks. Stay in school.”

@notgonnaholduup : “Sobriety says no to this trade.”

It’s pretty clear that Internet users didn’t like this trade suggestion at all, and we’ll spare you the other, sometimes more aggressive comments. Imagining a trade of Wemby at this stage of his career is astonishing enough, but to send him to the Lakers without any solid asset in return, that’s another level.
