While San Antonio isn’t necessarily the favorite in the Kevin Durant sweepstakes, the dream of pairing him with Victor Wembanyama is still alive and well. Fadeaway World has proposed a rather realistic scenario involving the Texans, Phoenix, and a third party.

Assuming Victor Wembanyama fully recovers from his deep vein thrombosis, the Spurs will have plenty of room for ambition in 2025-26. His partnership with De’Aaron Fox promises to be exciting on the court, but the roster around them still needs some improvement. However, it wouldn’t be out of the question to see the franchise join the superstar race this upcoming offseason.

As we know, the Texans have been linked to several major deals in recent weeks. Giannis Antetokounmpo, for example, is on the horizon as he could leave the Bucks but also, and especially, Kevin Durant. The forward is unlikely to play for the Suns next year, having missed the playoffs, not to mention the fact that his management had already tried to move him before the last trade deadline.

Nets, Spurs and Suns involved in a huge trade?

Now, KD is Victor Wembanyama’s childhood idol, and imagining the two athletic freaks wearing the same jersey is pretty scary. But since the two-time NBA champion has a huge contract ($54 million next year), it’s going to take some creativity to put together a trade… That’s why the Fadeaway World website has linked the Spurs and Suns to the Nets in order to make this XXL transaction.

  • The Spurs receive : Kevin Durant
  • The Suns receive : Nic Claxton, Keldon Johnson and two first-round picks in 2025 and 2027 (via Atlanta)
  • The Nets receive : Devin Vassell and a first-round pick in 2029

By making this move, San Antonio would not only secure the services of the Slim Reaper but also address two problematic issues. Devin Vassell has been in a somewhat strange situation since the draft of Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle and the trade for De’Aaron Fox. The backcourt is now overcrowded and costing much more than the former, he could be packing his bags at the same time as Johnson.

While the Spurs would slim down while focusing more on the short term, Phoenix would gain desperately needed draft picks in addition to acquiring a reliable starting center and a quality wingman. As for the Nets, who are not expected to aim for the top spots next season, Vassell’s arrival would allow them to acquire a second-in-command they could pair with their next top draft pick.
